Ankle pain/sprained ankle/ankle ligament injury
There are strong ligaments between the outer ankle and the leg, which tighten during supination. As the forces exerted during supination mainly affect the leg when under stress, ankle injuries typically affect the outer ankle.
When injuries of this nature occur, the outer ankle sometimes breaks, but more often an isolated torn ligament occurs. Injured ligaments are often not spotted and not treated properly and this can lead to instability later.

Treatment: A broken ankle requires emergency treatment, meaning surgery and/or 6 weeks in plaster. The use of Pedikom restorative orthotics can provide a significant aid during the recovery process and continued use can help to build up the muscles and ligaments, provide stability and prevent further injury.
In the case of an ankle ligament injury or lateral instability of the ankle, the outer side of the outer ankle can be treated by a physiotherapist. Again, Pedikom restorative orthotics can provide a significant aid during and after the recovery process.
The orthotics also alleviate ankle pain and improve athletic performance as they re-distribute the body weight over the three points on the sole as demonstrated by the pressure map for the "Normal Feet", thus ensuring optimum biomechanical performance. |
