Flat feet
Flat feet are a condition caused by the process of the longitudinal arches of the feet dropping or collapsing.
There are four different degrees of flat feet; 1 - Slight; 2 - Moderate; 3 - Significant and 4 - Extreme.
Symptoms of flat feet include sore longitudinal arches, soreness of the whole feet, sore and tired legs and sore knees. In extreme cases the condition can also affect other areas of the body such as the back and hips.
Flat feet can lead to other conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and pronation.
Many patients have two different degrees of flat feet (ie. two different foot conditions), which affect all bones, joints and muscles and pulls them out of the correct alignment.
The unbalanced condition can pull the joints out of alignment, causing a rubbing/wearing process in joint cartilage. Over time and in certain cases, this can lead to the need for hip and/or knee replacements.
The unbalanced condition can also cause a bad back and sore joints all the way up to the neck.

Treatment: The built in module under the longitudinal arch in the Pedikom restorative orthotics will force up the collapsed bones in the arch and will eventually restore the feet back to the "Normal Feet" condition. This correction process can be monitored through annual check-ups through our sole examination process. The pressure map should show how, over time, the width of the pressure zone along the side of the feet will gradually become more and more narrow, eventually comparing to that shown on the pressure map for "Normal Feet".
