Unbalanced body alignment
If there is a difference in the pressure distribution between the left foot and the right foot, this indicates that the patient has an unbalanced condition.
There are different types of unbalanced conditions that can be seen from the pressure maps:
- The pressure distribution is different between the left and right foot (i.e. there is more white and blue on one foot than the other). This indicates that the body's centre of gravity is predominantly on one side. The patient could have the same degree of flat feet or high arches on both feet, but still have an unbalanced condition.

The right side has more pressure than the left side, as indicated by more blue/white areas. The body's centre of gravity has moved to the right and the person has an unbalanced condition.
- Two different foot conditions (i.e one foot has a high arch and the other has a flat foot, or two different degrees of flat feet, or two different degrees of high arches, etc).

The right foot has a high arch as no pressure along the side of the foot can be seen. The left foot has degree 3 flat foot. There are two different foot conditions with the same patient. This is an extreme unbalanced condition - a potential eventual case for hip and knee replacement.

This is an example of two different degrees of flat feet - two different foot conditions. This creates an unbalanced condition.
This is an example of two different degrees of high arches - two different foot conditions. The right side already has a totally high arch, whereas the left side is developing high arches. This creates an unbalanced condition.
These problems create an unbalanced condition which affects all bones, joints and muscles and pulls them out of the correct alignment. This then causes a rubbing/wearing process in joint cartilage, which can eventually in some severe cases lead to hip and knee replacements.
The unbalanced condition can cause a sore back and sore joints all the way up to the neck. A large number of people don't have sore feet and their main complaints are sore joints and sore back. 80% of the time these problems originate from having underlying foot conditions, caused by the unbalanced condition between the left foot and the right foot. So, such problems are in fact "foot related" although the patient may not have realised this.
Treatment: The built in modules in the Pedikom restorative orthotics will re-distribute the body weight over the three points on the sole as demonstrated by the pressure map for the "Normal Feet". With this process the whole body structure is affected as the joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles are pulled back into the correct alignment, through the feet. This process can be followed on the pressure map as the body weight distribution (centre of gravity) changes until it is the same (or similar) on both sides. As the balance is restored back to the normal alignment through the feet, symptoms like sore back and sore joints will gradually decrease. |
