About us

Pedikom UK was established in November 2005 in Stockport as the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for Pedikom Kft.

In 1994, Pedikom developed and patented an advanced computer-based technology to assess an individual's biomechanics by analysing the condition of the feet, using a unique optical sole impression technique.

Pedikom, established in Budapest, Hungary by orthopaedic doctors and computer specialists, became one of the first companies in the world to provide an alternative to traditional orthopaedic methods and podiatry procedures.

The foot is a highly complex biomechanical construction. It is an arched structure built up of bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments, which provide stability when moving under complicated dynamic power impulses.

When this structure is out of balance or "posture" is not correct, this can lead to a number of different problems, not just with the feet, but also in the ankles, knees, hips, lower back and shoulders.

The procedure developed by Pedikom, known as "Optical Podography", involves the use of a diagnostic instrument called a "Podoscope" on which the patient stands with bare feet and which is connected to a computer. This instrument, designed to measure the distribution of pressure over the soles of the feet, produces a high-resolution 3D digital colour map, showing differences in pressure and enabling impressions of foot disorders to be recorded.

The images and data from the examination are then sent to Pedikom headquarters and are analysed by our orthopaedic technicians, who subsequently design the restorative orthotics, custom-made for the patient's individual requirements.

Pedikom orthotics provide a treatment directed at the cause of the problems. The orthotics provide a corrective pattern to which the feet mould, both alleviating and gradually correcting a number of foot problems and keeping problems from getting worse. The orthotics support the arches, relieve the excessive stretching of the muscles and ligaments, and help to correct abnormal joint motions in the feet, ankles, hips and back. All of this helps maintain healthy arches and provide a correct balance between the bones, muscles and joints.

In addition, Pedikom orthotics:

  • help the ankle and the foot to provide you with greater confidence and support whenever you are on your feet;
  • help to redistribute the body weight, thus reducing pain and injury after sport and exercise or as often caused by ill-fitting shoes;
  • can be used as a preventative measure for those with few or no existing problems; . are light, flexible and handmade, ensuring the highest quality in comfort and durability;
  • can be fitted into most shoes

Pedikom restorative orthotics are now used by hundreds of thousands of individuals around the world, with distributors established in Sweden, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Serbia, Syria and Yemen. Pedikom UK currently practices and holds demonstrations and training courses at the Cenacle Treatment Centre in Stockport (www.cenacletreatmentcentre.co.uk).
