Foot Care for Children
Many babies naturally appear flat footed. Usually, this condition will disappear as they begin to stand and walk.
Children with flat feet, or low arches may not be able to keep up with other children because of the added strain on their feet and legs. Up until the age of eight, the cartilage and bones in a child's foot are still soft and malleable. Any damage done during this period can not only cause discomfort, but also affect the future development of the foot.
Pedikom Orthotics for Children
Pedikom restorative orthotics are recommended for maintaining proper foot support and for correcting existing foot problems in children from the age 6. The orthotics help to realign the foot and redistribute the body weight evenly over the three support points by forcing the bones, joints, ligaments and muscles to form the cross and longitudinal arches.
Regular re-examinations will be necessary and the Pedikom orthotics must be refitted regularly as the child grows older.
If there is any suspicion that your child may have a problem or may be developing a problem with his feet or his balance or alignment, it is strongly recommended that a computerised sole examination be carried out. If problems can be detected early and suitable orthotics prescribed, there is a greater chance that a child will be able to correct any problems that he may have and thus be assured of healthy feet throughout his life. |
