Diabetic foot care
If the patient suffers from diabetes then they need to pay extra attention to their feet. One of the early signs of foot problems developing in people with diabetes can be a loss of sensation in the feet, often starting at the toes.
This is a good reason for the patient to first visit the State Registered Podiatrist/Chiropodist an annual diabetic foot assessment.
The loss of sensation is sometimes accompanied by a burning sensation in the feet. This can all be related to problems with the nerves. Diabetes may also affect the patient's ability to heal injury and reduce their natural ability to fight bacteria. Consequently patients should take particular care of any scratches, cuts or blisters on their feet.
The specialists at Pedikom are working on widening the range of insoles that we make and introducing a softer insole type, especially designed for people with diabetes. Currently we offer our Polifoam insoles to people with diabetes, but acknowledge that this is not the ideal solution. Consequently, patient's wear the insoles at their own risk.
